Built to solve challenges whilst prioritising privacy

The journey towards a privacy focused internet
You should be able to read the news, explore an interest, or shop online with confidence about how your information is used. You deserve clear explanations, meaningful choices, and respect for the decisions you make.
At AdFixus, that belief has guided us since our inception. Its roots go back further to the concerns and convictions that our founder, Marko Markovic, developed long before AdFixus began operating.
Our commitment is to help build an internet where businesses can serve their audiences while respecting the privacy of the people behind every visit.
In his Media Tech Talk interview, Marko traces an important turning point to his work at Microsoft in the United States in 2011. Seeing how search, advertising, and large technology platforms worked prompted him to think about the future of privacy and the need for change.
Those questions eventually became a technology project. Marko describes early development work in 2015–16, followed by the business beginning operations in Australia in 2020. Privacy thinking helped shape the ideas from which AdFixus was built. Watch the founder’s account, from 2:30 and 19:16.
That commitment has also extended into public advocacy. In his submission to the Australian government’s Privacy Act Review, Marko supported criminal penalties for re-identifying information in specified circumstances, including where a business had promised to keep it de-identified. He also argued for stronger limits on sharing personal information and protections that do not leave ordinary people carrying the burden of navigating complex data practices. We support privacy legislation around the world and efforts to strengthen people’s rights. We also welcome browser changes that reinforce privacy, restrict unwanted tracking, and limit the abuse of third-party data, including third-party cookies.
Our commitment is to evolve alongside stronger protections and help our customers do the same. The direction matters: people should have greater understanding and control over their digital lives.
We want privacy to be easier to understand and exercise. An everyday internet user should not need specialist knowledge to work out who receives their information or what agreeing to a service means. Businesses and technology providers have a responsibility to make those relationships clearer.
Cookies are small pieces of information stored in your browser. Some support familiar functions, such as remembering preferences. Others help recognise a browser across visits or connect activity across websites.
The privacy questions concern what those tools enable:
AdFixus uses first-party cookie technology as part of its platform. Our published product descriptions explain an approach based on encrypted browser identifiers, client control, and support for consent and revocation. The identity approach does not require your name or email address to recognise browser visits. Learn about our technology.
We support restrictions on intrusive third-party tracking while recognising that responsible browser storage can serve useful purposes. First-party technology still needs appropriate safeguards, transparency, and respect for people’s choices.
Our approach focuses on the relationships between people and the businesses whose websites they visit. We aim to help those businesses understand their audiences and measure their services through more controlled handling of information.
Our published platform policy states that AdFixus does not create, maintain, or monetise visitor profiles; those profiles are managed by our clients. It also describes consent controls and cooperation with requests concerning individuals’ information. Read our platform privacy policy.
Technology and responsible implementation must work together. The website you visit has responsibilities for explaining its practices and obtaining permission where required. AdFixus has responsibilities for the services and technology we provide. Those responsibilities need to be understood throughout the relationship.
"Our commitment is to make privacy choices meaningful - with clear, understandable information, informed decisions, and respect when people change their minds." Marko Markovic (CEO, AdFixus)
We want publishers to sustain valuable content, businesses to understand whether their services are useful, and people to participate online with confidence.
Stronger privacy protections help set the expectations for that future. As browsers, legislation, and technology evolve, our commitment remains consistent.
It began with our founder’s early thinking, shaped AdFixus from its inception, and continues to guide our direction: respect people, explain clearly, honour their choices, and build technology worthy of their trust.
